The time to go home and enjoy with our love ones has come. Is time to give the best of ourselves and to make others happy with actions of love. 

In Finland is a tradition to go back to your parents or to your grandmother's house in the countryside to spend Christmas, there you will have a peaceful time away from all the city noise and have a good time enjoying the nature.

A Fun Day Making Gingerbread!

Making Gingerbread!

So, our friend Eve from the Blog "The Full Teaspoon Club" came to visit us at home and we got the chance of making Gingerbread with an experienced backer. We had so much fun making the gingerbread and decorating it, and the recipe we got from Eve to make orange flavored gingerbread was delicious. 

We also got to learn some tricks to make the most out of our gingerbread like making a hole when they are still warm to make little Christmas decorations afterwards. 

Andy was with us too and she made us laugh a lot with her stories and jokes about little chickens.  

We also learned how to make our own decoration tools from baking paper so you don't have to spend tons of money in decoration stuff. This was a great experience for us. The third thing we learned was to make the icing for the decoration using Lemon or Lime; I have always used water or milk but using Lemon makes the icing sugar taste very good.

Happy Independence Day!

 Have a nice and Happy Independence Day! Like Finnish do, you can enjoy by watching the Castle Ball or Linnanjuhat. Light some blue candles and enjoy your time with family or friends.  

Happy Independence day Finland!

Finland Celebrates their independence on December 6^th. the date when they got their independence form the Russian Republic. The declaration of independence was written on 4.12.1917 and then accepted by government at 6.12.1917 with 100 to 88 votes. 

On January 1918 Finland got accepted their independence by most of the European countries, first ones being Sweden and France at 4^th of January and Germany at 6^th, Great Britain and United States didn’t accept the independence before the WWI had ended, more than a year later.

The date of December 6^th has only been celebrated since 1919, when at first it was only a holiday for offices, schools and jury; then in 1929 it became a general holiday like we know it today. The biggest celebration happens at the Presidential Castle commonly known as Linnanjuhlat where more than 2000 Finnish celebrities and important people are invited to have dinner with the President. The party is every year broadcasted by Finnish Television YLE and most of Finns like to watch it at home.

Hello Pikku Tani!

HELLO PIKKU TANI!

Her name is Pikku Tani and she has come to help us explore this land that holds thousands of secrets and places to explore. She is here to explain life in Finland and to let you know fun and interesting facts about this wonderful country. 

She is a curious girl, always asking questions and always wondering places that others may not want to visit so easily. She loves the adventure and the unexpected.For her the best trips are those that are not planned and instead just happen spontaneously and on the go. 

She can be silly and childish but she likes to express her feelings and views about the world no matter the circumstances. She likes to sing and talk but in Finland people appreciates the silence.
"Silence is Gold". 

Pikku Tani loves the nature and likes to walk and explore Finnish forest. She likes Sauna and swimming on the lake. Her Favorite food is Porkkanalaatikko, riisipiirakka and hernekeitto while her favorite sweet food is Pulla (Sweet Bun). 

She loves to be friend with Finnish people all the time, although sometimes she don't understand some things about them she likes to be with them to learn all about their culture.

Christmas Season in Finland

The Christmas Season 

I really Love this time of the year! and you can probably tell by the way I scream and get exited every time I talk about Christmas! But somehow despite the cold weather and the dark days, I feel that Christmas is one of the warmer seasons when people gets together, there is love all around us and everybody's hearts are open to the joy of Christmas. 

Like I mention on the video, the Christmas season is very different in Finland and in Mexico and that is one of the reasons why I enjoy traveling in this time of the year, because you get to notice the different faces of Christmas all around the world. During the last 5 years I have spent Christmas in Finland and I can tell that it has been a wonderful experience but nothing is so wonderful if you don't share with the ones you love, that's why I wish that this Christmas all of you will enjoy and celebrate the time with your families and friends and have a Merry Merry Christmas!

Finnish Joulutorttu & Glögi!

How to Make your own Joulutorttu and Glögi! 

Joulutorttu is a Finnish Christmas pastry. It is traditionally made from puff pastry in the shape of a star or pinwheel and filled with prune jam and often dusted with icing sugar. The pastries can be in other shapes too, I have seen Joulutorttu shaped like a dog face or like angels so you can really just be creative, you can also use apple jam in place of the prune jam and it teste delicious. 

You can actually see all the process oh how to make your own Joulutorttu in the video, but if you will like to start form scratch an make everything step by step I left a link with another blog that explains it very well.

Glögi is a traditional drink during winter, especially around Christmas, It is served hot or warm and may be alcoholic or non-alcoholic. Non-alcoholic and alcoholic versions of glögi can be bought ready-made or prepared with fruit juices instead of wine. Glögi is generally served with raisins, blanched almonds Joulutorttu or Ginger biscuits.

The time has come when every day gets darker and darker, the leaves have left the trees and only the nude skeletons remain to make us feel like in a Halloween dream. Not that it scares me to go out during this days or something... I am just simply saying! 

This is the time when must of us get depressed or we are just exhausted all day. Therefore I I made a small video for you guys so you will cheer up and to give a remainder for all the things you need to have before the REAL winter strikes.
